Frequently asked questions
All dietitians are nutritionists, but not all nutritionists are dietitians.
APD stands for Accredited Practising Dietitian. In Australia this is a regulated title for nutrition professions with expertise in medical nutrition therapy.
All APDs are required to complete at least 4 years of university training and 20 weeks of nutrition placements followed by 12 months of mentoring. APDs are also required to complete a minimum of 30 hours of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) each year and are audited by Dietitians Australia - the national body for dietetics in Australia.
Dietitians can provide medical nutrition therapy for individuals with an acute or chronic health condition (such as PCOS, endometriosis, diabetes, allergies and intolerances, cancer) or eating disorders.
You may also be eligible for rebates from Medicare and your private health insurance with an appointment with a dietitian.
A nutritionist may or may not be university-qualified. Nutritionists can provide practical nutrition advice to healthy individuals but they are not able to provide medical nutrition therapy and their services are not eligible for Medicare rebates.
Absolutely! Everyone is welcome at Sunday Dietetics.
Although I have particular expertise in women's health, eating disorders, fertility and pregnancy dietetics I have years of experience providing support for a range of nutritional concerns including allergies and intolerances, fussy eating, cancer support, malnutrition, gut health issues.
If I feel I am not the best person for you and your health needs, I can help point you in the direction of the right person for you.
Everyone's health journey and goals are unique and there is no set timeframe.
There is a lot of information to cover in each session, and it takes time to address it all.
From my experience people benefit most when they have regular appointments at first. This helps to establish momentum, address any issues/barriers that might come up and help solidify new habits. Then once you feel confident in your knowledge and ability to apply the strategies to reach your goals, we can reduce the frequency of our appointments.
If at any stage your goals change or you would like support in another area or want to just touch base we can always set up another appointment.
Whist I primarily provide virtual support I understand your preference may be to see me in person. If this is the case send me a message or call us and I can arrange for an in person consultation. I also offer in home visits if that suits you and your family best.
No, you do not need a referral to see a dietitian.
However, if you have been referred to a dietitian by your doctor and have a Chronic Disease Management Plan or an Eating Disorder Treatment Plan you are eligible for Medicare rebates.
Please bring your referral to our first appointment so that your claim can be processed.
Yes! I can absolutely see you and your partner.
Depending on what you are looking for there are different consultation options.
If you are looking for broader advice based on your family routines I can provide see you both in one appointment. In this appointment we discuss what your diet and lifestyle look like as a family and offer strategies that support you to achieve a more coordinated approach to achieving your goals (for example shopping, cooking, meal ideas, lifestyle changes).
However, if you want in depth, individualised support for each person I ask that you please book to separate appointments. You are welcome to book them back-to-back and attend each other’s session.
At the end of your appointments I provide you with a brief summary of what we discussed and any goals/plan we make together. Where relevant I will also provide you with resources you can refer to at home.
If you have a question about anything or you want to clarify something between appointments, you can send me an email and I can provide a quick response.
If you have complex questions that we need to discuss in more depth I will let you know, and I can make sure we dedicate time to it in our next appointment or we can arrange an earlier appointment if you want a faster response.
